maxx families walraven - revit objects

Project info:

Making parametric Revit content of the MAXX 1.1 Rail system which has been precisely designed to accommodate multiple hanging connectors. This project revolves around the creation of parametric Revit content for Walraven MAXX 1.1 product line, while also encompassing its diverse range of accessories. The task was to make content that is a copy of the real-world version but also a great user experience with all the available options selectable and it had to meet the UOB requirements and differentiation of materials.

Client brief info:

Walraven Group is one of the global leaders in the installation sector. With over 75 years of quality, the Walraven Group operates production and sales facilities worldwide. They specialize in delivering smart system solutions for fastening, fire protection, and sanitary needs, serving diverse sectors like residential, commercial, offshore, shipbuilding, industrial, and infrastructure. Their journey from a small family business to a global company is a real-life proof of the good work.

The Challenge:

The success of this project depended on the detailed alignment of content creation with the provided specifications. The creation of formula-driven families, coupled with lookup tables, demands a keen eye for detail. Effectively managing multiple materials within some families while accurately representing them based on Walraven’s order and priority adds another layer of complexity to this challenge.

The Approach:

In the process of the evaluation of the MAXX 1.1 product from Walraven, we executed an analysis of the provided documentation to thoroughly understand the intricate features and specificities of the system. Guided by the User Requirement Specification (URS) supplied by Walraven, we began this project to construct the specified product families precisely. Our methodology was anchored in the application of formula-driven techniques alongside lookup tables, which guaranteed both adaptability and precision in our design efforts. This method was especially for product lines that required combining various materials. We relied on Walraven for a detailed description of these materials, enabling us to precisely represent their sequence and characteristics in the product configurations. The URS* played an important role in outlining the product range in focus, explaining the anticipated behavior of the product families, specifying the required parameters, and detailing the necessary product information to be included within each family. This methodical understanding and strategic execution allowed us to fulfill the project’s technical requirements efficiently, ensuring our engineering solutions were both effective and in strict alignment with the criteria.

The Outcome:

We created 13 parametric (shared nested) families according to the specifications of Walraven for the MAXX system that incorporate each other. These families are now available in the BIM library and an integrated part of the workflow of Walraven.
